Whether you have arrived at this site interested in individual, couples or family counseling, or professional growth, it is likely you are experiencing a desire for increased health, a decrease in problematic symptoms or behaviors, and a happier and more productive life. Whatever the reason, be it personal or professional, I am here to help you explore the origins of the problematic symptoms, the impact of potentially dysfunctional behaviors, and to help you develop new and healthier ways to show up in your life. I am a Licensed Marriage Family Therapist, Certified Addictions Counselor, Organization Development Specialist and Certified Daring Way™ and Dare To Lead™ Facilitator .
Foundational to my approach are well researched approaches with proven outcomes, including Dr. Murray Bowen's Family Systems Theory; the cutting edge and always evolving research of Dr. Brené Brown on vulnerability, courage, shame, and worthiness also known as The Daring Way™ and Dare To Lead™; and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy utilizing the new TEAM CBT approach - cognitive behavioral therapy on steroids, well researched and demonstrating remarkable results.
As human beings we are hardwired to connect, to be in relationship with others, and we do this through family, work and social interactions. These relationships can be very complex, and even when we think we have disconnected or removed ourselves from some of the more dysfunctional of these relationships, the learned dysfunctional relationship dynamics often remain, impacting how we love, parent, partner, work and show up in the world. Dr. Bowen's concept of differentiation of self suggests, "the less developed a person's "self," the more impact others can have on you," even in their absence. While Brené Brown's research notes that connection/relationship "is what gives purpose and meaning to our lives, and that without it, there is suffering."
Both the lack of differentiation from others and the need for connection often result in dysfunctional and painful scenarios for individuals, couples and families and can play out at home and at work. Suffering can look like anger, anxiety, depression, difficulty communicating at home and at work, a decreased ability to recover from challenges, not getting that promotion again, stress, and even illness - it shows up at will, often uninvited and sometimes unknowingly. The good news here? Once we create awareness through therapy, build skills, access medication if indicated, the pain typically decreases, our happiness increases, and our lives become more productive and fulfilling.
Please feel free to contact me with any additional questions and to schedule your initial appointment: 303-549-8563.
I look forward to working with you!
